WELCOME,
Whether you are a business owner, manager, or employee this blog is for you. I love to learn and never ever stop thinking. My best ideas come to me while I am on a run or doing mindless everyday activities like brushing my teeth. This blog is my outlet to share a little bit of the 1,000,000 thoughts I have each day on how to help improve other's lives and solve world problems. In this blog I will discuss issues that affect the bottom line and the success of every business.
Just a little background about me. My ultimate goal in life is to make a positive impact on as many people as possible. Being a servant leader is in my blood. From what my parents say, I was always concerned about issues like hunger and war even as a child. I guess you could say I was a little bit of a neurotic kid. Glad that didn't continue on into my adulthood or did it? I thought about being a teacher originally in college while I was getting my undergraduate degree in Mathematics. My minor was going to be Art so I could be a double threat for hiring within the school system. For some great coincidence, I was completely unsatisfied with the Art department's
subjectivity in grading and opted for the opposite taking all subjectivity out of the game and moving toward the Accounting field. I completed my undergraduate studies with my Bachelor's in Mathematics with a minor in Accounting. Throughout college I worked for a coffee shop. I continued working for this coffee shop two years after I graduated because I wanted to see the shop succeed. As most people in business know, sometimes things succeed by closing down before the business goes in the hole. Needless to say that was the case. The coffee shop closed down and I got an official business job. I worked for a medical clinic as a project manager. I learned a lot of what not to do which makes for a great first job. The role was great. I got to work with many different types of managers and I mastered an essential business technique which most know as cost-benefit analysis. I saved the organization from making some poor future business deals which was exciting. Too bad they had me too focused on business development and I was not given tasks on the operations side of the house. The company had a very risky business structure and one of the critical Jenga pieces on the bottom got pulled. Guess what happened? You guessed it, Jenga. The company went through Chapter 11. I got to see the whole thing unravel and I even got to be a part of the lawyer meetings. It was a great opportunity and like I said, I learned a lot about what not to do. While working for this organization I had the pleasure of meeting a very passionate nonprofit. Once the Chapter 11 experience settled down, I resigned from the medical clinic and started a new chapter in my life. Pun intended. This chapter is where I currently reside working for a nonprofit with a focus in veteran services. I have loved all of my jobs, but I will say, they keep getting better.
Since I am an avid learner, I recently went back to school to obtain my Masters in Business. I met some amazing mentors and great lifelong friends. Also, I was able to polish off my knowledge in some areas of business I have not focused on in my career. The learning doesn't stop there though. I cannot wait to read more books, gain new skills, manage new employees, and take on new projects. I will lay out my thoughts on issues that affect the bottom line in this blog in hopes to help give managers and employees new ideas and hope for the future. There is a whole big world out there with tasks to finish, projects to tackle, customers to satisfy and money to make.
